About Music Therapy
& Our Services
Music therapy is an evidence based therapy which uses music and the therapeutic relationship to facilitate change. One of the best parts of music therapy is that you don’t have to be “musical” or be a musician to receive or benefit from services. Music therapy can be used with so many different people and populations. Music therapy can be used with both individuals and groups.
To become a music therapist, an individual must complete an undergraduate degree in music therapy and a clinical internship, earning 1,200 hours of clinical work across both of these. After completing these, they are eligible to sit for the board certification exam and earning the credential Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) through the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
I practice primarily from a person-centered perspective and highly value compassion, authenticity, and honesty in my work. I believe that sharing music is something that can be very vulnerable and I also believe that music can create a sense of safety in therapy for whatever you are experiencing. This duality is one of my favorite parts of music therapy.
I provide in-home services in the Central Virginia region, as well as Telehealth services.
